Charlton County Schools had the incredible honor of hosting Malcolm Mitchell, Valdosta native, former UGA football player, Super Bowl champion, and founder of the Share the Magic Foundation! Malcolm visited Folkston Elementary and St. George Elementary to share his inspiring journey from "the football field" to becoming an author. He encouraged students to persevere in their reading just as he did, reminding them that “to read is to succeed.” Every student received a copy of his book The Magician’s Hat, which he read aloud, and together they chanted, “Read” – “Succeed!” reinforcing the power of literacy, perseverance, and hard work.
Some of our students from BMS and CCHS were also selected for a special “Lunch and Learn” with Malcolm at the Charlton County Board of Education. He shared powerful insights on how reading impacts life success, from achieving personal goals to shaping future opportunities. He reminded students to embrace their unique perspectives, face their fears, and strive for their dreams, saying, “Find out who you are, stick with it, and that’s going to be your superpower!” Thank you, Malcolm, for inspiring our students to unlock their potential through reading!
